THE EUROPEAN HEALTH INSURANCE CARD

When we travel, we often find ourselves in situations, when a sudden illness or an accident ruins our plan. This situation can cause even more concern if we do not have a proper travel insurance plan. In Europe this can be arranged quite easily, by acquiring an European health insurance card. It gives people access to state provided healthcare in case anything happens to you while traveling. The card is free of charge and there is an application available that tells you how to use it and in which countries you can use it in.

It also tells you what kind of rules apply for its use, for example the application gives you information about the card, it does not however enable you with the ability to get the card through it. It must be requested from your national health insurance provider. It is also not an alternative for proper travel insurance, it only gives you some sort of a backup plan that if anything happens, the costs of your treatment will eventually be covered by your health insurance provider. You can usually claim up to 80 % of the money you have been charged back, if that happens of course. You will however need copies of all your receipts. You can contact your national healthcare provider when you get home and file a claim through them.

All of this can be organised trough your smart phone. If you have a bit of time and know how to download a few smartphone applications, it can benefit you even more. You can first do some research through the internet, read some different websites and choose a few of the offers that you are interested in. After that, you can wage the offers of different healthcare providers against each other and in the end find the one that will be the most beneficial for your lifestyle. When the right one is chosen, the only thing you need to do is to download the application that manages the service and you will be well on your way to organizing your healthcare service.
